Hi. My name is Sue and I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in Feb. of 2002. At first I was fanatical about my diet and medication and the whole thing then some “other” problems came up and I dropped even trying to do any of that. Gained back the 100 pounds I had lost, plus some. And was “given” to diabetic expert doctor within the last month, as my last A1C came back that my glucose was (doctor’s quote) “way out of control”. The new doc took me off Starlix (which when I took it, my glucose tested higher anyway) and put me on 20 units of Lantus first thing in the morning, 5 mg of Glucotrol first thing in the morning, and 2 mg of Avandia first thing in the morning. He has to be careful giving me Avandia since I also have a heart disease. I go back to the doctor on Feb. 7 to see how things are doing and if any adjusting needs to be done. I am so very hard trying to do correct eating, but am on the run at this time (getting a house built and it will be ready to move into
anytime) so my eating gets pushed out of the way for running about stuff for the house or such. As for being on insulin, I really don’t know how well it is helping, as I don’t even know for sure I am getting the shots right. The doctor never had anyone show me how to do them, or even watch a video about it. He just sent home a one page paper that gave a few instructions on how to draw up the medication, said to pinch up an area (abdomen), inject, wait for a count of 5, and take the needle out. That is all I know about giving myself the insulin.
Hope I didn’t talk too much for my first time. I am looking forward to being a part of the group and getting to know you all.
Love,
Sue
