Would you all believe I knew about the boiling hamburger since I was a kid? Anyone ever heard of Maid Rite burgers? They are mostly found in Iowa and Illinois. They are loose hamburger (that has been boiled with seasonings added) and put on a hamburger bun. They have actual restaurants and are regular eating places for people to eat at. Also a lot of families in Iowa and Illinois have boiled hamburger and severed it on buns, or bread (if you didn’t get to the store that week for buns or bread was cheaper) and have ate it that way for years. There is a place here in Troy that the owner went into a Made Rite restaurant in Iowa and fell in love with them, but they are trademarked so he calls his “Krumbly Burger” and it is a hit here. He opened up three other restaurants in towns around here. They are hits also. And anyone watch “Roseanne” the TV show when she opened up her own shop called “Loose Meat”? That was after she married Tom Arnold and he is from Iowa and she ate at a
Made Rite place up there and got the idea from that for the “Loose Meat” food shop in her TV show.
So actually it is not all that strange to me and have been eating it all my life. As for spices in it, if you are cooking it yourself, you could add what ever you wanted. Some just do salt and pepper. Some add mustard to it while cooking. Onions. Or try mixtures of what ever might sound good. But as for us in Illinois and Iowa you are talking about just something that is a normal meal. LOL
Love and best wishes,
Sue
