quick question

Can you have low blood sugar with out needing medication or
insulin? How is that possiable?
I am pretty sure there isn’t medication for low blood sugar. You
definately wouldn’t take insulin for low blood sugar as that would
send it lower; if it were already low it would probably send you
into a coma or even kill you. The only ‘medicine’ I know of for a
low level is gloucuse tabs but those are not medicine really just
concentrated sugar. I have done a lot of research about low levels
because I have it happen so frequently and from what I have read
it’s more common to have problems with hypoglycemia (low blood
sugar) when you are type 1 diabetic (I am type 2 so obviously it can
effect both). My doctor & my nutrionist recommendations for a low
reading is to have some sugar food, honey, sugar, oj, syrup
whatever’s handy and then to have a complex carb & protien snack. If
you are under 50 (some articles say under 70) you are considered to

be in a life threatening low level, you must have something that
will quickly bring it back up and then something that will help keep
it up. I have heard many people who normally have very high readings
(I think even someone here) say they have experienced symptoms of
low blood sugar when their level is just on the low side of normal,
at say 90. Which seems logical to me, if your ‘norm’ is say 180 and
you are down to 90 your body is going to act like it is 40. I tend
to have a near perfect average but then I will drop down in the 30s
and still be able to function- I barely have symptoms until it’s
under 35.
Hope that helps some
Denise
