Hi Everyone,
I am brand new to the forum and to Diabetes. My father developed
insulin dependent diabetes when he was in his late 70’s…at least that
is when we found out he had it. He lost his lower leg and used a
prosthesis in his last years. My sister was diagnosed a few years ago
and takes pills daily. I just found out a month ago that I too have
diabetes, but at this point my doctor said that if I continue to loose
weight and exercise, I may not have to take any meds. I have lost 20
pounds but have lots more to go. Is it pretty certain that one day I
will need either the pills or insulin? I am looking forward to
learning lots on this forum and I am looking for taste-tested recipes
that I can make as well.
Thanks, Darlene

Hello Darlene
Welcome to the group. I was diagnosised this past November (just
before my 32 birthday) & so far I am also not on meds. Have you seen
a nutrionist/dietician yet? That was the first thing my doctor did
was fill out the referal to one, & it helped a lot.
Nice to meet you
Denise

Oh yes, I have met with the dietician and the nurse…I have a
second appointment the first week of May. So far I have lost about
20 pounds and hope to continue losing weight for a while. I am
checking levels only once a day so far but have had no readings
higher than 126…usually in the teens. I am definitely not happy
that I have diabetes. I do feel somewhat deprived (of foods I used to
eat), but hopefully I will get used to the fact that I can no longer
eat some of the things I used to. Does anyone have any good recipes
that they would like to share???
