Still not feeling the best yet. Finger is less swollen and nausea, shakiness, aching, etc. is improving (the “bad flu” like I was told I would most likely feel) . I got over my fear of snakes about 10 years ago (don’t like the really big exotic ones the people keep for pets) but the regular wild ones, I stopped being afraid of, of course except for the darn poisonous ones. I never killed any of the garter snakes in our yard, nor the nice 6 foot black snake that mostly hung out in my flower bed, cause all those guys are helpful snakes and are totally harmless. We also had a few other harmless over the years, king, one with a blue tail, ribbon and so on. And then there was the rare time a copperhead would be found, now those we did kill, because of being poisonous. While they are not a deadly poisonous, they could be so to the furkids. Those were all at the house we moved out of in February. So when the realtors called Tuesday to say they are having open house this weekend to
try to help sell the house, I went out Tuesday to pull tall grass and weeds out of the flower bed so the prospective buyers could see the flowers. I never have used gloves for it before and don’t if they would have helped. But I felt a pain on my left ring finger and yes, I did see the snake to see it was a smaller copperhead. He had nailed me. But due to that they are not very venomous the only thing the hospital does is if you have not had a tetanus shot in the past 5-10 years they give one, and send you home (if you are not showing any signs of being allergic to the venom, that is the only time a copperhead bite can be dangerous) letting you know you can get like really bad flu (depending on how much venom was injected). The one puncture is straight in and the other is at the side of my finger and didn’t go straight in. Missouri loves to brag that they have never had a death from a copperhead bite. The only way you can die from their venom is if you are allergic to it,
just like someone who is allergic to a bee’s sting. But it still is not a fun thing to go through. Really miserable, actually. No, it hasn’t changed my mind about snakes, the wild ones are ok, but dislike the poisonous ones are liked less.
Was too ill to mess with taking daily glucose readings during this, so have no idea how it affected them. Hum, wonder if it did or not.
Love and best wishes,
Sue
