some good news

February 17th, 2004 · No Comments

Hey, guess what. For the first time in many years, my blood glucose this morning was under 150. It actually read at 139. Wow, I was shocked, especially since that was before any medication too. No insulin, no glucotrol yet, and I take my avandia at night. After so many years of being 280’s - lower 300’s and then starting in January when I was turned over to the diabetic specialist and he put me on the above three meds, I only dropped to 180’s - lower 200’s. Of course he has been having me come back and my last insulin adjustment was April 14. Looks like this time we may have finally got it. I know the 139 isn’t perfect range yet, but the doc said the insulin adjustment would take time to bring it down. That is why after he has adjusted the does each time, he has had me wait two months to come back, to give it time to work on the glucose. I see him in June and wonder how my A1c will be. I know I could go out and get one of those home A1c tests, and might try that. The ADA
had an article on them in their magazine and had pretty good stuff to say about them. They were pretty much about as accurate as the lab ones and were only about $20 to buy, but they insisted they were not to replace you still having the lab ones done by your doctor. They really stressed that point.

Well, I as I said, I know that isn’t a perfect reading yet, but I was excited by it.

Love and best wishes,

Sue
