Hi. I see that we have several new people who have joined our family in the past few weeks. I want to apologize for not writing to each of you individually to welcome you. But I do want to let you all know that we are so glad to have you with us and look forward to being part of our family.
Could I ask a favor of each of you? Could you just write a quick little hello, so that we can get to know you and so everyone else will know who you are and can have the chance to welcome you also.
Thanks,
Love and best wishes,
Sue

I see we have several new members to our family. I want to welcome you all. I am
sorry I didn’t write when each of you joined. I have been having some health
problems over the past days and either was only able to basically just check
what email I could or sometimes wasn’t even able to mess with computer. But
again: a big welcome to you all and I am so glad you are with us. You don’t have
to wait for someone to write an email before you can write, just jump on in any
time with any questions or anything you’d like to talk about. It would help
everyone else to get to know you if you would just send a quick note about
yourself.
My name is Sue and I was diagnosed type 2 in Feb. 2002. I am not eating as
correctly as I should be at this time due to lots of things going on (too long
to go into) and am on two kinds of inuslin and two oral medications. I take 30u
of Lantus in the morning (yes, I know usually it is a night time injection, but
my doctor has me take it in morning) and glucotrol in the morning also, then
later in the day I take 6u of Novalog (use the pen for that) and finally I take
Avandia about 9:00 p.m., but only 2mg of it instead of the normal 4mg (due to
heart disease I have). Of course besides all the meds and not eating totally on
“program”, I am over weight. I am sure hoping things settel down in my life so I
can get back on “program” and start loosing weight again (lost 100 pounds
before, but all came back) and eating totally correctly.
Wishing you all the best,
Sue

I want to welcome everyone who is new to our family. I also want to apologize that I did not welcome each of you as you joined. Things have been a bit hectic here and even more so for poor Stephanie. But,as I said, a very big hello and so glad to have you with us! I prefer to think of us as a family instead of just a group because we have a great bunch of people here and everyone is just super.
Could I ask one bit of favor of anyone fairly new? Could you write a bit about yourself so the rest of the family can get to know you and say “hi” back? The info that you write when you join only goes to Stephanie and me, and doesn’t get passed onto the family.
I’ll let you know some about me: I am Sue (and am moderator for the group). I am type 2 diabetic, diagnosed in Feb. 2002. I am currently taking two oral meds for my diabetes and also two insulins for it. Oral meds are: glucotrol (glipizide is generic for it), and Avandia, but only 2mg. since I have a heart disease. The two insulins I am on: 30 units Lantus (one injection in the morning, of course since it is a long acting insulin - generally close to 24 hours) and I take an injection of 6 units of Novalog Flexipen in the evening with my supper. I am still fighting to get my daily blood glucose down and also my A1c in general, also. Yes, I am very much over weight and I know that is a major factor to the glucose problems. I am hopefully on my way to resolving that problem. I am taking my first step towards having gastric bypass done. The surgeon that does it insists that anyone going to have it done must attend a seminar and then from there it is just taking the steps with
him (and his staff) that end up getting the surgery done. I called his office the first part of August and the first seminar that had an opening is Oct. 10, so I will be attending that. Hopefully it won’t be long after that before the surgery is done. Several people where my husband works has had the bypass done by this doctor and all highly recommended him, as did other contacts I checked with. His office staff tell new patients that it normally takes 3-9 months for the surgery to happen, but the people my husband has talked to at work said theirs all took much less. The last person that had it, went to the seminar in May and had the surgery done in June. I am so hoping that will be the case for me. I was told that the more referrals/recommendations I had from my doctors, the faster the insurance co. will approve it. My primary care doc already sent his, my cardiologist is going to write up his, and I see the endocrinologist Oct. 3 and he will write his after that
appointment. (the endo. is who is my diabetic doctor) I am thinking of calling my respiratory specialist and asking him to write a referral/recommendation, as the losing weight would help my respiratory problems and also contacting the gastric doctor I see and asking him for a referral/recommendation too. I figure with that many referrals/recommendations from that many doctors, the insurance co. should approve it really fast.
Again, welcome so much to everyone!!!!!!!!
Love and best wishes,
Sue

Hi there! I am a newbie to all of this also as my son, Matt who is 19 was just diagnosed last week. He was losing weight and was tired. He went to the doctor and immediately put in the hospital for 2 days. His sugars were THru the roof!!! He said he felt fine and was very lucky he was not very sick at this point. He is doing ok with it , even tho is is overwhelming for me(MOM) He is living on his own and going to college, working, etc so of course I am a wreck worrying about him! He is a very strong kid as he has been thru alot in the past and is very serious about this. He has already signed up for the local cure for diabetes walk here in Oct. If anyone want to sponser him, please email me for information.
He has alot of changes going on his life and feels this is very important to do this and I am so proud of him making that choice already! He is at a point in his life where you want to be independent, careeer choice decisions, and so many other things as he is 19 but a very responsible adult!
I would appreciate any help in Meal ideas and healthy recipes or any advice at this point. He can eat anything and correct it with insulin.
thanks again for listening and keep us in your prayers!! Wanda
