Weightloss support buddy?

May 16th, 2004 · No Comments

My sister who has a slow thyroid put on a lot of weight and was tipping the scales at around 300. She became so frustrated with this that her doctor put her on a diet that is a step away from gastric bypass surgery. It’s all liquids basically; she has 4 protein shakes per day with various “puddings” and “Jell-O’s” through out the day. It’s a tough diet but one she has been on since January and has dropped 50#… others who don’t share her thyroid problem have dropped more… she also tends to cheat sometimes she admits. Her insurance pays for it since it is through the hospital and because of its drastic nature she has to have regular blood tests making sure her body isn’t getting stressed. With it she also has a membership to the hospitals work out center. It’s also very expensive diet but if you consider your health having a cost… it’s worth it. She is told by her dietician to only have 6 80z glasses of water per day but she also is getting the liquids from the shakes,
pudding and Jell-O. As I said… it’s a hard diet (especially if you enjoy cooking like I do) and one I don’t think I could participate in but if you have a tremendous amount of weight to lose, maybe it would be worth your inquiring about with your own doctor. It is 100% supervised and even has support groups to help you say on track. My sister lives in MS so I’m not sure if it is everywhere or not.

Susan,
