Hi. I just thought I would try to write an explination of why maybe some of us
(me inculded in off subject emails) send “off subject” emails and how they sort
of can be related to diabetes after all. Diabetes can have so very many side
effects, some are controllable by our actions/behavior, such as eating incorret
foods in incorrect amounts and that will disrupt our blood glucose. But there
are also things that we have no controll over that will disrupt our bg (blood
glucose) and a lot of diabetes don’t know about that. Many don’t know that: some
medications will cause it to rise (or even drop in few cases), prednisone is a
big one for making it go up, very up. Also some antibiotics can mess with it.
Another thing that can make it go up is stress. Anger, illness, any kind of
stress. Each person is different, but for some it can raise their bg by a lot.
And of course the worse the stress the more it is going to raise the bg. Just
like when Lucy went into hosptial last week, fo
r over 3 days my bg was over 200 (usually close to 250), and that was with
taking all my diabetic meds. We all know having the higher bg is not good/safe
for us as diabetics. So sometimes when we have something going in our lives, we
turn to discussing this with our diabetic family here, because while it may not
make the problem or issue go away, it sure helps to share it with others. Just
the talking about it and getting it off our chest can help defuse it some. And
we need that, becuase any relief or release of the stress can help the bg. Or if
we are sick, we many just want to let everyone else know so they can be aware of
it. Remember; being sick can raise your bg. And when it is up, your behaivor
usually changes (weather you know it or not). You can be more irritable, more
sad, or just really angry all the time, and so on. So as for me, I write to let
you guys know what is going on, to help me get release to help on my bg (like a
supportive family does), and also when I
am ill so you will know my bg is going to most likely go up and be aware that
changes in my “attitude” is due to bg count. Also when some one sends a joke or
“feel nice” story, I also find that helpful diabetic wise, in that it can make
me laugh or just enjoy a nice “feel nice” story or such, and in doing that, a
person is even affecting their diabetes. Because the laugh or feel nice feeling
can (even for a little bit) help lower the stress part of our life, yes, even
just everyday stress that may not be a biggie, but is three. And when that gets
lowered or the bit of relief from it, it does help our blood glucose. So for me,
I see that all the emails that may seem “off subject” and not have anything to
do with diabetes, in reality does affect it. Except the spam dateing websites,
and such. Of course those are nothing to do with diabetes in anyway. Hummm,
actually the adgetation of them showing up so much can be upsetting, and that
can raise the bg.
I haven’t meant to offend anyone or any thing at all like that. But just wanted
to explain how and why the emails can be diabetic related and why for me, I send
them (for those reasons). I am sure anyone who sends a joke and/or “feel good”
item or story is doing it for the same reasons too.
Love and best wishes to all,
Sue
