short trip down memory lane

June 26th, 2004 · 2 Comments

I had a short trip down memory lane today. We had to go out and stopped at
Cracker Barrel for lunch. As usual I just had to go do a quick walk through the
shop while waiting for our food to come out. I love how every so often they will
have things from when I was a kid that you just don’t see anymore. I was
thrilled to find Clove, Blackjack and Beechnut chewing gum, and they even had a
box of Smith Brother’s wild cherry cough drops. Oh my gosh! Talk about taking a
step back to child hood. Of course I had to buy one of each! Unfortunetly Bill
stopped me from being able to get all the goodies I found. Dots. I know none of
you “youngseters” would have any idea what those are. Us “oldies” ate those.
They are just the colored dots on strips of paper. Remember how when you pealed
those little colored dots off some of the paper always stuck to the back of
them, but you ate it any way and still loved it cause you were getting to eat
candy? LOL And I found Mallow Cups and also Vallow
Cups (pretty much the same thing, but different makers). Slow Poke candies and
so many more things from when I was a kid. Oh, besides the candy, they also had

old fashioned paper dolls. The kind you bent the little tabs on the “clothes” to
hang over the cardboard doll. And the thing that is filled with metal shavings
(the little bits of metal) that you use a magnet that looks kind of like a
pencil to “pick up” bits of the metal and move them to over a face to make hair,
beard, mustache, etc. that is on the cardboard that the metal shavings are all
sealed in. Gosh, the simple things we loved to play with as kids and thought
they were just great. Now look at what the kids have to have now days? Big
difference huh?????
Well, that was my fun today.
Love,
Sue
