I have a question and don’t know if anyone can help. But; does anyone else have
trouble getting enough blood when you do your stick for testing on your
glucometer? I have a terrable time getting blood. I have to restick 3,4 or 5
times in the exact same area (leave the lancet in the same spot, re-cock the
lancet device and then push the button for sticking again). But even that is not
enough, I then have to pump the lancet pen up and down over the stick site to
“milk” blood out. I test on my arms and no matter which arm, inside of it,
outside, or side, it always is takes forever and a bunch of work to get enough
of a drop of blood to test. I have new glucometer, since the older style was
recalled (use OneTouch Ultra)and it has been that way with both them. But when I
used the Free Style I had the same exact problem. I have the setting for hardest
stick even. Anything less than that and I get no blood at all. Bill has the same
problem. His glucometer is also new, and has had tr
ouble with both for getting blood.
Anyone have this problem and any ideas what in the world to do about it? I know
I just can’t do it on my fingers. They used them when I was in hospital both
times (in June) and it was done at least 4 times a day. My fingers were so sore
that I couldn’t hardly use them for anything. Pushing the buttons on the
telephone was almost impossible from how sore they were.
Love and best wishes to all,
Sue

I have the freestyle meter and I have to push down real hard on the area in order to get enough blood but it does come …have you tried really rubbing the area for a couple mins to get the area warm before doing it?

What I do is make sure I have had a glass of water about 1/2 hour before sticking! ^_~ (Back to the water conversation!!) Plus if it’s cold I run my sticking finger under some warm water for a bit and massage the area I’m gonna’ poke. Don’t squeeze it too hard!!! You may also find a tingling in your fingers as you get the lancet ready! All the other fingers that are waiting to get poked react and tingle!! No kidding. I only stick in the morning so I go pinkie, ringe, middle, index and back again, on my left hand, so no finger has to get poked more than 3 days apart. <shrug
and some sugar free cookies with decaf for dessert. ^___^ Gonna’ do that at least twice a week with my family (they said they loved the salad meal, too - glad for the support!).

Sue, I use the one touch ultra smart, I dont have any trouble gettin enough blood, course I am a bleeder anyway, a simple paper cut and I bleed forever. I have to test 10 times per day, I use the same finger, middle finger on left hand and I prick the side of it. Believe it or not it has developed a callous, and it dont hurt at all, and bleeds just fine. But I know when I first started it sure hurt bad. I guess I should count my blessings that I am a bleeder. What I dont like about doctors is they leave there settings the same, the person before me may be a person that dont bleed well then when they stick me I bout bleed to death. Linda
