If the lotion had any alcohol in it, it may not have dried and that could have caused the stinging. Also alcohol cools the skin as it dries. Found out that is one reason I have been having trouble getting blood to do my testing. I always rub the area with an alcohol patch and have a fan on to dry it faster. As it dries it cools the area. After the doctor’s helper told me this, I felt that part of my arm and sure enough, it always felt a lot more cool than the rest of my arm. So now have to use the patch on both the arm and couple fingers and use those fingers to rub the heck out of my arm after using the alcohol to warm it back up. As for it making the testing last night sting; haven’t you ever had them wipe before doing a blood test at a lab and it didn’t get dry before they jabbed you and it stung? Also when I was in hospital and they took over giving me my insulin injections, a few times they didn’t totally wait for it to dry before injecting the insulin and Yipes!!!!
it stung. The lotion may have also contained other ingredients that could have acted the same way. For the best way to make sure it doesn’t happen again is maybe next time, test first and then put on lotion? I have a terrible time with dry skin and I use a bath body wash from Aveeno. It isn’t oily like some of the other ones (that sure makes the shower floor slippery) and rinses off easy too. Aveeno has been makers of stuff for skin problems for years and I was thrilled when my dermatologist gave me a sample of the bath/body wash. Also another great thing for dry skin is Eucerin creme or lotion. It is quite a bit more expensive than most of the others, but it takes a lot less to do the job. A little bit goes a long way. As a matter of fact you can always tell if you have used too much, as it will not all absorb in. I use the cream (thicker than the lotion) and for my hands (worst area for being dry. dry all year around) it only takes about the size of soy bean. Not any
larger. My hands are big too, from being so overweight.
Love and best wishes,
Sue
