Well, the seminar was good. A lot of the information I already knew, because I have talked to so many people about this already (people who have had it and also some professionals about it) and also read articles on the net about it (from legitimate and trust worthy sources). But I did learn more. Of course they went through what their procedures are leading up to the surgery, the surgery itself and the after care. They do both the band and the full out bypass, which for short it was most commonly referred to at the “y” procedure. Found out the “y” is what would be the one for me, mainly because of having type 2 diabetes. The lap band does not help diabetes, where as the “y” in most cases of type 2, will make it go away totally. As a matter of fact, they actually used the word “cure” when they said how much it would help. That is not their consensus, but the government uses that wording now when describing how much the “y” help type 2 diabetes. Also the weight loss is more
with the “y”, and with the lap band you can cheat very easily on it and not lose weight or gain it back. You also do not loose as much weight over all with the lap.

So today I have many things to get done or start on, that are needed for the surgery. I have a huge form to fill out of information, contacts, and a form they will send into my insurance company. I also have doctors to contact for records on tests they have done. And bunches of more things. One of the biggest is to find a protein drink that is not made with soy. After the surgery you will drink protein drinks a certain number of times a day (besides having three meals a day) and most of them are made from soy. I am in the small group of people who are allergic to soy.

Am hoping that they do take me for the surgery and that it isn’t too far away.

Oh, more good news about the doctors who would be doing mine. They have been doing the gastric bypass for many years and have done an extreme amount of them, so am not going to someone who is fairly new at it. As a matter of fact, they were doing it when other doctors couldn’t as they were part of the FDA study of gastric bypass, so where in on it during it’s study phase. Now days, it is done laproscopically. (I know I most likely murdered the spelling on that, sorry)

Off to get things rolling,

Sue
