Foot care questions

March 31st, 2006 · 1 Comment

My son mentioned to me the other day that when he was in the
hospital last month (when he was diagnosed) that he was told he
could not (or should not) use metal toe nail clippers. I don’t
recall this conversation, so I’m glad he was paying attention.
Anyway, I said, “What did they tell you to use?” He said, “I don’t
remember, but I’m using the nail clippers, anyway.” So, now I have
something else to worry about. Can some of you tell me what I
should do about this? I remember when a friend of mine used to do
my nails, she had a guy come in there for a pedicure, and she
mentioned to me that he gets pedicures twice a week because he is
diabetic. Is this what I should do for him? I doubt he will go for
it, being a teenager and all.
I am in the Navy Reserves and was recently notified that I have been
activated. I am leaving for training in Virginia and from there
they haven’t said yet, but it will be Iraq or Kuwait. I will be

gone for at least one year. I expected for some time that this
would happen, just not a month after my son was diagnosed with Type
1. So, now I’m having to teach my husband everything. But before I
teach him, I still have a lot more learning to do, myself.
I just want everyone to know how much I have appreciate the advice
that has been given to me in the last few weeks as well as any
advice you can give me regarding this and anything else in the near
future. Gotta learn quick!!

There are some wonderful places in Virginia if you get a chance to
learn about diabetes check in at Norfolk Naval Weapons or Portsmouth
Hospital and they will have great info available also.
My hubby is in Irag now and if you need support let me know. I am his
family readiness group coordinator so I know everything (yeah right).
Send me your addy when you get it and I will send you a care package
    ok.
Best of luck with your son and husband. They will do fine, just try
and get them working together and it should go well.
