Hi. I got to see the diabetic specialist today (finally, not his fault. Bill wouldn’t stay last Monday for the doc to see me). He made some major changes in my medications. I now take Lantus twice a day: 35 units in the morning and 10-15units at 9:00 p.m. and he also changed my Novalog: it is 6 units in the morning and 8 units. evening. He stopped the Glucotrol. I was doing the insulins just 35 units of Lantus and 6 units of Novalog. So he increased them. He did give me the pen system for the Lantus. I just got my three month refill (of the regular vials of it) from our insurance, so have one vial open and three unopened that I have no idea what to do with. I want to switch to the pen as soon as I can get it from my insurance. I have to mail it in and then it takes about two weeks as soon as they get it, for the med to get to me. Anyone know if there is some place that I can donate the unopened Lantus? I would sure like to be able to help someone who doesn’t have insurance
and can’t afford medications. Back to the doctor visit. He said he is pretty sure the reason my glucose is so high and the meds don’t seem to be working anymore, is that my pancreas “has given up”. His words in between the ” “. I don’t know if that makes me now a type 1 and not a T2 anymore. I see him in one month (instead of the normal 3) and I will ask him then. Since both Bill and I had appointments with him and other people were waiting to see him, I didn’t want to take any more of his time. He had spent a lot of time with me already about my glucose readings and what to do.
Love,
Sue
