glucose and med ?

June 26th, 2006 · No Comments

Good morning. I am trying a bit of experiment this morning. I can’t remember who, but one of you tried Prilosec a little bit ago and it messed with your glucose and made the readings higher. I have been on Prevacid for about 10 years and a couple months ago was switched to Nexium. My glucose has been high for many years (but that is my fault for not eating correctly and doing what I should). Before Christmas I did change my eating some and my A1c was great, but the daily readings were still high. I recently went back on program and while I can feel I am losing weight, my glucose is still high. The doc last week did a bunch of changes with my med (took me off Glucotrol) and insulin (added more injections and amount). It brought my glucose down from the 280-low 300 range, but only to 180-low200. I was wondering why if I am getting all the more insulin and have changed my eating completely, why is my glucose still so darn high. I always take my first test of day in the
morning, usually pre breakfast and just before or immediately after my first injection of Lantus. But I have always had my Nexium for the day, and now am back on Prevacid but have had it too. I remembered that who ever it was that took Prilosec said it caused their glucose to go up. So this morning, I slept late (have been trying not to come down with a cold/flu) and did not get my Prevacid taken at my normal time. I took my glucose and it was 150. It has not been that in ages. I took my Prevacid after the my glucose test and am going to wait an hour then retake (no breakfast or other meds in that time) and see if there is a change in the reading and how much. As for the eating. I only went back on program Saturday, and I know you aren’t supposed to weigh yourself before a week is up, but thought I was feeling a little difference. I have lost almost 4 pounds since Saturday. I will wait till this Saturday and get my one week weight loss. Last time I was on program I lost 100
pounds from February to October.

Will, let you all know what the glucose is when I recheck in an hour.

Love,

Sue
