Hi everyone…as you know I am going in for a total hip replacement next month..I am worried about my diabetes care while I am there and in rehab..wonder if anyone can give me any tips on what to do..I know the day of surgery I will not be able to eat before I go in and wonder what will happen after ? My Brother gets real sick after and cant eat a thing without it coming back up…ever gingerale…I just want some suggestions if anyone has any…I know i will be on an IV for 24 hrs? can they give me something there?? I am totally confused…thanks in advance…

thanks everyone…you have lightened some of my anxiety…Now I know at least I wont die in the Hosp from my diabetes…

Margi,
Make a list of what your BG goals are as yours and the hospitals may
differ greatly and tell them you dont want to go over those numbers.
Also insist that you be allowed to keep your monitor with you at all
times and if you are on insulin that you be allowed to give your own
shots as needed, not when the nurses think you need them. Talk with
your diabetes doc ahead of time and insist that he/she inform the
hospital that this is to be done.

I was lucky enough that my endo made rounds at the hospital. I hope you
are as fortunate.
