May 1

Happy May Day everyone! Do any of you remember celebrating may day when you were kids in school? We always did . Would go outside for longer periods of time than just our recess time. Always planted a little container with a flower seed and left it in the school room and when the flower came up big enough to plant, we then got to take it home for our mom’s to plant. When we were in the higher classes (like 7-8 grade) we didn’t do the planting the seed thing, but would maybe have part of our class outside for about an hour instead of doing the work inside (you know, like during math or reading). Or our teacher would take us for a walk up town to the ice cream stand, that always opened May 1 and we could get a cone or such. I went to a very small town school and when we went to class, we stayed with the same teacher all day in the same room, except for p.e. or music. It wasn’t till you went to high school that you went to different rooms for different classes and had more than
one teacher. We didn’t have a junior high, which now days is called middle school. We had 1-8 grade and you actually graduated from 8th grade before going on to high school. We didn’t have gowns, but boys wore suits and girls nice dresses and we even got a “grade school” diploma showing we did graduate from grade school. As for high school, our class was the largest to ever graduate from it: we had 72 people.

Wow, the meds are really bringing out the nostalgia in me.

Love,

Sue
