what’s going on here today

July 7th, 2007 · No Comments

Have been busy on lunch for a couple hours. Am trying the barbequed chicken that I saw on TV the other day. So far smells really good. Not sure how it will turn out. Used all chicken breasts instead of the entire chicken cut up. Found out I had no flower to coat the chicken with and the bag of light brown sugar we bought at wal-mart last night was really dry and would not pack, so used regular brown sugar. Oh, well, will see how it turns out. Also just got the cut up cabbage in the skillet for fried cabbage. The bacon was just right when I got the cabbage in. So will be having a lunch of barbequed chicken and fried cabbage. Looks like another warm day here. It is going to be in the mid to upper 60’s. The next couple days we are going to be in the 70’s. Yes, you did read that right - 70’s. Tomorrow is supposed to be 72, Tuesday is 74, and Wednesday is only going to be 70. Guess I am going to have to dig out those short sleeved shirts. Have a few plants that bloom early
spring, should see if any of them are up. Also might go out and see if the forsythia is budding up to bloom. Don’t have any tulips or daffodils. Got some bulbs last fall, but didn’t get them into the ground. As warm as it is getting, maybe Bill will put my clothes lines up again, so I can hang out wash on nice days like this. Would be so nice to have stuff dried outside. Always so much nicer than the dryer. Bill finally got the parts of our concrete pad in front of garage cut up. When the big cement trucks brought in the concrete those three times for the retaining wall and the walls for the extra garage, they crushed a bunch of the cement pad. Luckily it was all the 4-5 feet of the outer edge. So Bill rented one of those big walk behind cement saws and cut up the bad stuff to use the bobcat to remove it. When the retaining wall is finally backfilled and the garage is finished, he is going to cement that whole area and have it one large continuous pad. Will make parking and
getting into and out of the garages easier. Have been checking on the cabbage (and of course turning it) and it is at least half way cooked down. When first put it in the skillet, it was taller than the sides (and it is a large skillet with tall sides), now it is only half way up the sides of the skillet. The chicken is sure smelling good. We are both getting plenty hungry. Just hope it all turns out good. St. Patrick’s Church in Wentzville is having their annual corned beef and cabbage dinner today. Since they are St. Patrick’s Church, they have it every year the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day. Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes (not mashed, but the big chunks), milk gravy (or as some people call it, “white gravy”), ham, corn, carrots, homemade bread, home made corn bread, home made applesauce, milk, tea, coffee, and your selection from the dissert table of home made pies and cakes that the ladies of the church have made. It is served family style/all you can eat. And it is
always good eating. It goes from 11:00 today until 5:00 this evening. We are thinking of going to it for supper. What a day for food!!!
